October Skies, by Oracle (PG-13)

Hi everyone! Apologies for the late start, but I'm Severuslovesme and I'll be reccing X-Files fic this month. As I've already recced X-Files before, I thought I might go for a bit of a theme this go round. So I'm reccing one of my very favorite style of fics: post-eps. I hope y'all enjoy the recs!

Fandom: X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Author Website: Oracle's X-Files Fanfic

Why this must be read: Not exactly timely anymore, but who doesn't love Halloween? This fic is set in Season 2, post One Breath and during Scully's recovery from her abduction. It's funny and sweet and will tug at your heart strings. Mulder and Scully are perfectly themselves, and the writing is flawless. A must read, especially if you like early Mulder/Scully!

When Scully looks through her peephole she sees a misshapen
jack-o'-lantern grinning in at her.

"Who is it, Day?" Melissa calls from the kitchen.

"Who else?" she calls back as she pulls open the door.

Mulder is leaning on the doorjamb, smirking at her, the pumpkin
tucked under one arm. With his eye patch, red bandana and hook
velcro-strapped to his wrist, there's no mistaking what he's
dressed as. His white ruffled shirt is open to his chest. Scully
bites her lip and takes a step back.

"Yargh, me hearty," he growls, prowling into the room. "Trick
or treat."

"Nice to see you too, Mulder."

"I brought thee this boon, m'lady." He hands her the
jack-o'-lantern.

"Thank you. It's a little lopsided," she says, holding it at
eyelevel and scrutinising his butchery. "You'll never be a
surgeon, Captain Mulder."

"That's not what me first mate said when I sawed off his
leg, says I."

guh, ILU. i love this fic. it's what i use to demonstrate that well-done UST can be just as, if not more, fulfilling as all out smut.

Oracle was the very first person i ever wrote to in fandom. she didn't reply. *sob*

You know, the same thing happened to me. I wrote to her this gushy letter about how much I loved her work, and she never responded. Oh well. I feel better knowing it wasn't me.

Hi, it's Oracle here. I'm so sorry I never replied to your feedback! As I said to [livejournal.com profile] tree, I left the fandom and stopped checking my email for a long time. Yahoo ended up deleting my messages, and now my account is mostly full of spam. Anyway, thanks so much for your feedback! :) It's wonderful to hear you enjoyed my work.

If I ever got this comment in my inbox, I forgot to respond. The [livejournal.com profile] crack_van is closing and I am doing the last round of TXF recs, and found the copmment going through the memories to see what of yours had been recced and what hadn't.

If you see this, what fandom did you move to after TXF? I'd love to read more of your work.

Hi, it's Oracle here. I drifted away from the fandom a few years ago and stopped checking my apollostemple email for a long while. So, yahoo deleted all my messages! Even now I only check it every couple of months and it's full of spam messages. I'm so sorry I never got back to you. I'm kind of obsessive about replying to feedback, actually ... er, as you can see. I'm glad you enjoyed my work. Thanks very much :)

Anyway, I visit [livejournal.com profile] crack_van a lot but never thought I'd get rec'ed here. I was browsing through the X-files for nostalgia, and then I'm like, wow, my stories! Awesome!

oh, it's you! *emits fangirly squeal*

i think you were one of the first authors i read when i got into fanfic two years ago. i've no idea what i wrote to you, but i'm sure it was gushing.

do you think you might get back into the fandom with the current resurgence of interest in the new film?

Well, I've been out of the fandom for a long time, and right now I'm involved with a new one. I think I might be a one fandom girl when it comes to writing fic, although I'm definitely a fandom whore when it comes to reading it! The other thing is, when I left the X-files fandom I felt like I'd said everything I wanted to say about the characters. I'll definitely go watch the movie when it comes out, though -- I'm excited about seeing what they come up with!

Ooh, I like this genre. :D (Plus, I pretty much like everything you rec. (Hey, maybe that's why we're friends!) So, I'm excited!)

I remember reading October Skies ages ago. I had totally forgotten about it, but it's excellent. I was glad to read it again.
