He swallowed and answered reluctantly, gazing down at the Doctor with something like pity in his eyes. "All new subjects go through evaluation. To test reaction level, triggers, responses; give the creative teams a feel for how best to use them."
A dark shadow flitted across the Doctor's face and he rushed to reassure him.
"Nothing permanent, nothing damaging. It just triggers memories, emotions, and monitors the response."
"And what about after that?"
Hesitating, he looked away. "You don't want to know."
