Once More With Feeling by Rachel (NC17)
Previously on Popslash: The whole process really seemed quite anti-climactic; moving was a big deal in the scheme of things, but after all of the excitement of keeping and hunting a zombie, pretty much anything seems small and unimpressive in comparison.
Today on Popslash: Once More With Feeling
Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing Chris/JC
Author on LJ:
visionshadows
Author Website: Last Night
Why this must be read:
The number of good fucking reasons to drag JC back to Delaware was getting larger and Mr. Kirkpatrick kept each of them in a notebook hidden in the fake bottom of his briefcase. Mr. Kirkpatrick never forgot anything, least of all anything JC had done to him.
I've been trying to keep the fandoms in these recs pretty varied, but they do all have one thing in common: they are usually fandoms I've either participated in or like very much. The Pretender is no different. I watched it religiously all four years it was aired on primetime, and countless times since it's been rerun on TNT. I was pretty suprised when I came across this.
"Once More With Feeling" is an AU. Rachel re-casts the main characters of The Pretender with pop characters, with the exception of Justin, who isn't in this story. The reason I like it, particularly, is because every time I read it I end up thinking about the show, and the dynamic of Ms. Parker and Jarod--which is most definitely as fucked up as it's presented in this story.
A couple places to start for more information on The Pretender is the official site, whose flash is rather cool but it's pretty low-end on information. The Pretender Haven offers much more detailed info on episodes, cast, etc., but beware as it is the traditional fan site.
Main Characters:
Chris is Ms. Parker, the ruthless pursuer of Jarod/JC.
JC is Jarod, a Pretender who can conceivably become any person he wants to be. He's on the run from The Center, where he was held captive for most of his life, and from Ms. Parker/Chris.
Supporting Characters:
While the story isn't exactly clear about this, I think Lance is Sydney, the psychologist who was Jarod's handler until he escaped.
Joey is Broots, tech-man who helps keep track of Jarod through computers.
