What's Luck Got to Do with It? by S T (NC-17)
Fandom: Magnificent 7
Pairing: Ezra/Vin
Author on LJ: not that I know of
Author's Website: for this story, Tar 'n Feathers
Why this must be read:
Of all the pairings of the Mag7 universes, probably the one I have the hardest time accepting is Ezra and Vin. From the series itself, it's clear that the two men are about as opposite as night and day - and more significantly, other than the other five men they ride with, they have virtually nothing in common. But they are one of the more popular pairings, and for those of us who love Vin, and who will take him any way we can get him, we accept E/V - even though I do it with a certain level of 'suspension of disbelief'.
Until - I was pointed to this story. S T does something that very very few Ezra writers do - she makes him as dominant in the story as I see him in the series. Not 'tie-Vin-to-the-bed' dominant, but, to quote Ezra from the show itself, "I abhor gambling and as such leave nothing to chance". In this story - he does leave nothing to chance, and it is wonderful and wicked because of it! The characters are awesome - true to the show and yet their interaction in the story is sound as well, something I could actually accept. The writing is strong, the story is fun, and I just love Ezra's very polite way of taking charge.

S J - and Cobalt, both do good studies of the characters though in their writings, and something that they each do with both Vin and Ezra (possibly using Vin as the POV point) gets their stories past my 'uh huh' editor.

ezra/vin
I guess that's where I see the point of intersect - Vin, as a tracker, looks for details, behaviors, etc. to tell him the truth of things. Ezra might pretend to be a lot of things, talks a good game, but when it comes down to it, his true nature shows through. I like the pairing for that kind of gentle faith Vin seems to have in Ezra when everyone else doubts him.
(Off to read the rec now!)

Re: ezra/vin
Let me know what you think of the story! When Ezra is written as he is here, I find it a lot easier to accept the idea.
