Eel of Fortune by Locita and CapnNate (PG13)
Fandom: HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS
Pairing: n/a
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website:Locita's Story Page on the Iolausian Library
Why this must be read: This is one of the first stories I found when I got into the fandom. It's an adventure story where Iolaus loses his memory and ends up a slave in a far away land, where Hercules eventually finds him. I know the plot sounds very typical, and I tend to dislike most of the Iolaus-as-slave stories I've found since they tend to be more Iolaus-as-pitiful-victim stories, but this one has some original concepts (the God of Madness and the sacrifice scene are effective and scary), good characterization, a sexy part for Aphrodite, and it's great watching Iolaus work through his initial distrust of Hercules and reinvent himself as a hero, even without his memory.
