Why this must be read:
Rec number two in the Welcome to Bandom! set that I'm going through this week. This one's Fall Out Boy. Pete's notorious in the fandom for his disastrous past relationships with women (hey, you write a whole album about the girl that broke your heart and how you hope she fucking dies, you deal with the consequences). He's also notorious in the world for accidentally getting pictures of his special places published on the internet. This story combines those two ideas. Basically, a Pete Wentz sex tape shows up online. Pete is very much Not Happy. The story is told from Patrick's perspective, and he's not happy either, but for some very different reasons. I like the friendship and the tension between Pete and Patrick, and the way that it all comes to a head was very satisfying. The best part of this story is Pete, who is just such a presence in Patrick's life.
"Where the fuck are you?" he asked with a groan and a yawn, rubbing his hand over his face. He’d been expecting this call for the past two weeks.
Pete’s between-the-lines were surprisingly easy to read, after all.
"Los Feliz," Pete said, oddly subdued, and Patrick sighed, reaching for the jeans pooled on the floor of Pete’s guestroom.
"I thought that much, asshole." Patrick tucked the phone against his shoulder and pulled the jeans over his hips, buttoning them with one hand while he groped for his glasses. "Where?"
There was a long pause. "At the foot of her driveway," Pete said finally. Patrick could almost hear the break in his voice.
