Why this must be read:

This is a 'Blair is a cop after the series' end' story, and looks at the relationship between the two men as Blair spends his four months in a uniform, and as Jim starts to figure out some things that maybe he's been ignoring up until now. I like the Jim POV here. Jim's a mix of things, just as the man in canon is: petty and generous, intelligent and wilfully blind, resentful of Blair's influence on him but still needing and enjoying his company. E Batagur shows interactions within the department, and there's a feel of familiarity with the reality of policing in a large American city - at least so far as this foreigner can judge these things. :-) This story is part of a longer, uncompleted WIP but stands alone in an episodic way. Try it and see if it suits.

I love this story -- I never tire of re-reading it. This Jim rings so true as you see things through his eyes; from Blair's commitment and growth as an officer, to his fellow detectives, to his accord with Naomi.

I recently wrote to Elizabeth and am glad to hear that she is currently working on the third story in the series. Great rec, Mab!

Thanks. I come back to this story fairly regularly, in part because it feels grounded in the real world in a way that doesn't often happen with fanfic.
