This story takes place after the movie, and the Alliance in its infinite wisdom has decided that what will make the 'verse a better place is for all adults to be married. If the crew ever wants to set foot on land again, they have to comply with the law. So they do the only fair thing and draw lots to see who will marry whom. The outcome is by turns sweet and poignant, funny and hot.
