Breathe by BMP (PG-13ish)
well, i've enjoyed my time at the helm of the mag7 crack_van, and I'm going to finish with a little gem i just came across. inspired by this experience and a small conversation with BMP, i am writing a series of meta articles on how i pick stories for recommendation here, if you'd like to read it.
Fandom: Mag7:ATF AU
Pairing: Gen, features Chris and Buck
Length: 6622 words
Author on LJ: none
Author Website: BMP on Drinking 'n' Fighting
Why this must be read:
I love stories that are 'full circle' fics - pieces that bring a character back to a similar situation to one he started in, with a different, more uplifting ending. It always feels like it provides closure to me and the character in question - a sense of healing, and I adore that. 'Breathe' is a powerful little full-circle fic. It's told from Chris' POV, while he's in the hospital going in and out of conciousness, so it reads a bit disjointedly - but this is how BMP manages to pack such a punch. The disjointed blurring of Chris's memories allows BMP to seemlessly weave threads of his past and present into a poignant whole. Gems like these are why we peruse fanfiction.
It's a bit too short to give a snippet, but grab a hanky and go read
