Why this must be read: Post TINH, everybody's trying to deal with Mulder's death. But Frohike also has to deal with the funeral arrangements. When was the last time you read a good Frohike fic? ... Yeah, I thought so. Not only is it a great Frohike fic, it is an incredibly moving fic in general. The angst is thick and heavy, tears flowing left and right (but it's not mushy or corny or insert-your-derogatory-adjective-here), and Doggett is just *that* awesome. If you are not tearing up along with Scully by the end of this fic, you have no heart.
"Shit happens? Is that your official viewpoint, Mr. Frohike?"
I didn't say anything. When I'm half asleep, I've learned to let sarcasm slide and take another slug of coffee. If you live with Langly you've got no other choice.
But where Skinner was concerned, not speaking when spoken to was gasoline on the fire. From the way he snapped at me,it was clear he takes that whole Assistant Director power-trip way too seriously.
"Mr. Frohike, I used to have a bumper sticker on my car that said that exact thing. I drove around town telling everyone I knew that 'shit happened.' In fact, I used to find the whole idea funny." Skinner gave his eggs a savage scramble. "Of course, that's before I knew what it really meant. Now, I don't think it's so funny. And it's certainly not an answer to what happened out there. Not an answer at all."
