Why this must be read:
Jack's a strong, resourceful guy, so used to control, or at least the illusion of it. So it's hard to write a story about the Year that Never Was that captures what it must have been like for Jack to lose all of that. This one truly does. It's not about plot -- this is purely a story about sense and memory and experience, about longing and loss, and it captures Jack -- and his relationship with Ianto -- perfectly.
