Live Journal Elections

Hey all, we've made a point of keeping this community on-topic over the last 4+ years, however I think the current situation with the Live Journal Advisory Board elections is worth mentioning here, and relevant to all of us.

A few days ago, there was a flurry of discussion in [candidate] [livejournal.com profile] jameth's journal, trying to figure out how they could get more votes. [livejournal.com profile] brendan (of [livejournal.com profile] ohnotheydidnt which has at least 50,000 members) was brought up. Jameth asked "omg how can we get ontd," qweerdo went to Brenden's friends only journal and begged, and today Brenden came through.

Earlier this evening, he posted a very strong, very cyber-loud endorsement, and since that post - just a few hours ago - Jameth's gone from 17% of the vote to 20.4% (growing rapidly) of the vote because Brenden has made sure they know that "SOME LAME ASS HARRY POTTER FANDOM DORK IS IN THE LEAD."

[livejournal.com profile] icarusancalion has compiled a comprehensive list of ways in which Jameth has based his campaign upon attacking fandom's place on livejournal in this post. He has shown that he has no respect for fandom as a voting body, does not understand the issues fandom is facing in this election, and is willing to play up negative fandom stereotyping in order to gain votes.

Please CAST YOUR VOTE for one of the fandom candidates: [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy, [livejournal.com profile] rm, or [livejournal.com profile] vichan. More info on all three found here.

Much of the above text lifted straight from my flist.

This is very embarressing, but while I feel very strongly on these issues and want to support fandom, I don't actually know how to vote...? Can you point me in the right direction at all?

Hi! [livejournal.com profile] fandom_votes is a great place to go for a run-down on the fandom candidates. The leading fandom candidate right now is [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy, with [livejournal.com profile] rm in a very solid second place, followed by [livejournal.com profile] vichan. there are a breakdown of platforms at the link Shaggy provided in the post, or you can just browse the [livejournal.com profile] fandom_votes comm.

Unless you literally meant "how to vote," in which case, make sure you're logged in, go here:

http://community.livejournal.com/lj_election_en/25463.html

Then select one candidate in each category (from the drop down menus) and click enter.

Thanks!

If you mean, technically speaking "How do I cast my vote!" just click on the link in the post above that says CAST YOUR VOTE. Chose one the three fandom candidates above in each of the three drop down menus, submit, and you're done!

Thanks!

This guy must have a very small penis if he really needs to win THAT badly...

Funny thing? I voted days ago and incidentally chose those three fandom candidates :D

I hope that idiot doesn't win. I didn't even know him until this voting started and he was in the lead (back then). One look at his journal made me shake my head and ask myself what he even WANTS on that board.

Many people don't think that he really needs to win that badly, but that he's mostly doing it "for fun".

I'm curious, how do you find out how a candidate is doing?

After you vote you should be able to see the results.

How to view results...

[identity profile] kayjay206.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
On this poll (or any poll, I believe?) you can view current results even before you've voted. At the poll post, you click on the "Poll #" and then choose "View Poll Results" from the option across the top. One of the other options lets you change your choices if you've already voted, as long as the poll is still open.

Thank you very much for this post. I had no idea who to vote for and no time to research it. A ringing endorsement here means a lot, especially with all the not so pleasant news about how the new ownership is planning to change LJ. I wouldn't have voted at all without any input.

Now, I'm off to vote!

This states exactly what I was going to say.

I'd already voted for the fandom candidate's based on Icarus' info, but just wanted to congratulate you for making this post. Let's hope other fandom communities do what you've done.

Go, vote. I already have. Just don't read the comments afterwards... Serious wank fest there. *Headdesk*

Thanks for the PSA. I already voted for our fandom candidates based on a post from [livejournal.com profile] heidi8, but the more people who post about this, the better. :)

I voted on the weekend when the issue came up on my flist. I know not everyone is pleased with the voting order many have suggested, but ANYTHING is better than that douchenozzle making the Board.

Additionally: Do not vote a straight ticket! It makes your 2nd and 3rd votes not count in this system. Choose someone different in each place.

[identity profile] spare-change.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I disagree with how Jameth is being characterized, and I think the fact that fandom is backing a member of the Abuse Team who helped enforce Strikethrough alternately depressing-as-fuck and hilarious. Like it or not, Jameth's firm pro-free-speech issue stands in stark contrast to Legomymalfoy's attitude that LJ just needs to be clearer about the boundaries fandom isn't allowed to cross.

Oh fandom. Never stop shooting yourself in the foot. (I also don't see the difference between BNFs spamming everyone's flists telling them to vote for Legomymalfoy -- and without revealing her abuse team affiliation, either -- and Jameth asking ONTD for their support. But maybe I'm just stupid that way. :C )

I also think that anyone who would deny being a "lame ass fandom dork" doesn't belong in fandom. 0:)
