Why this must be read:
Although the pairing in this story is Chloe/Lex, this story is more about the friendship between Clark and Chloe. The ways is which a friendship can be damaged by each individual in the friendsihp is really the focus on this piece. This isn't a happy tale, not at all, but it's a realistic take on the way people destroy something that did mean a lot to them, in this case a friendship.
circulartime does an excellent job at capturing this element. This is a must-read if you've ever thought that maybe the friendship between Chloe and Clark isn't necessarily all that healthy.
He was twenty minutes late, and Chloe Sullivan wasn’t sure if she should be pissed off or scared. Clark always called when he knew he’d be late, he was very considerate that way, but if he didn’t call, it was because something was usually very, very wrong. There was no telling what kind of situation he could be in right now. He may be lying half-dead in a forest with green kryptonite glowing nearby, or being beaten to a pulp by some super strong alien with all of his strengths and none of his weaknesses.
