Why this must be read:   Because Jen (aka Psychgirl) is one of the new breed of TS writers that keeps this fandom alive and kicking.

 

I don’t like death stories. Correction: I don’t like tragic death stories. So, why am I recommending a story that has one of our guys dying tragically? Because if you envision the guys staying together for a lifetime, the likelihood is that one of them will die first. And, while it’s romantic to think that the other will pine away for lack of love, the reality is that a spouse often survives for years and must learn to continue without his soulmate. Psychgirl's story explores this path. 

 

At a Cascade cemetery a 70-something Blair meets a 16-year-old girl who’s visiting her police officer father’s grave. Blair, being Blair, strikes up a conversation. Over time, through flashbacks, he takes her and us through the decades that he and Jim shared. There’s cases to be solved and love to be discovered. There’s anthropological rituals and career choices.   There’s desperation and resignation and fantastical journeys on the spirit plane. Of course there’s sadness, but mostly it’s a tale of two men who love and are deeply loved in return. 

 

Although I love seeing our guys frozen in amber – young and feisty and cracking jokes – I also love stories that show us what lies years down the road. After time has slowed their steps a bit and given them some grey hair. I like to think that they will be together “for better or for worse”. This story covers that for me.

Well, with the adage "good things comes to those who wait", I'll wait patiently until you're able to post. I do remember reading the little piece where Simon gets up close and personal with Ellie, so I've had a taste of things to come.
