Desperately Seeking by Arsenic (NC17)

Previously on Popslash: Trickster’s face was a dull red, his spiky hair in even more disarray than usual and his clothes a bit rumpled. Golden Boy’s curls and new black jumpsuit with gold crest were perfect, as always, but a tiny smile played on the corners of his lips, and he moved with a swagger he had not possessed before. Nick’s grin widened. "Yup. Snagged him but good, I’d say."

Today on Popslash: Desperately Seeking

Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing: Chris/JC
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] arsenicjade
Author Website: Every Rose Has a Thorn
Why this must be read:

They hadn't seen each other since, but they'd written and emailed and spoken, and Chris knew that a good friend didn't always mean the person in closest proximity. Admittedly, when Alex disappeared it was generally for two or three months at a time. Sometimes four. At the six month period, Chris was starting to worry. By the seventh, he was feeling quietly frantic.

This is my last crossover rec of the month, and it just so happens to be another gem from this years Pop SeSa. "Desperately Seeking" is an X-Files/Pop crossover where Chris and Alex Krycek were childhood friends separated by time and space but not, apparently, by letters. Krycek goes missing (think X-Files canon, as it fits nicely in there as well) and Chris gets worried. He decided to take action in the way Krycek once told him to, if Krycek were to ever disappear, and so begins a funny and intriguing story.

While the prose itself is decent, there are a couple of winner lines that clinch my reccomendation of the story. For example: "So JC was worried, in a second-hand, removed type of way, a way that still allowed him to desperately want to visit the National Art Gallery." That's a line that I would consider to be definitive of JC. This too: "I hate being in planes. I find the concept pretty fucking cool. Plus, we get to go look at the space stuff and taunt Lance about it later." Which is very, very Chris.

But, I'm going to stop quoting at you and suggest you go read it for yourself. For more information on the X-Files, check out [livejournal.com profile] isagel's primer.
