Counting the Ways, by joandarck (PG)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Fraser/Vecchio
Length: 1500 words
Author on LJ:
joandarck
Author Website: None that I know of
Why this must be read:
According to the author's note, the idea behind this story is, "What if they had to Hide Their Love, but instead of OMG Angst, it was just cute? Because, looking at the early episodes of the show, that's kind of more how I would picture things."
In this story, we get a glimpse of the early days of Fraser and Vecchio's romantic relationship. To no one's surprise, it takes place largely in the closet.
It's very sweet and
joandarck does a really nice job turning the fandom cliché of the Hidden Gay Love on its head.

"I passed the time whilst on guard duty by composing a sestina in your honor. It's nothing much, really, just an amateur attempt at capturing my feelings. It describes your eyes, your skin, your physique... I was hoping to recite it to you."
An added glow stole over Ray's face: a hint of condescension or embarrassment that warmed to a smile of incredible sweetness. "You wrote poetry for me, Benny? I'm touched."
He eagerly absorbed the smile rather than returning it. "Of course. You know, the Inuit have a courtship tradition of reciting poetry, to pass the time on long winter evenings, and improve their standing with their beloved objects by demonstrating appreciation of one's partner, powers of concentration, and oral dexterity."
Ray closed his eyes. "Fraser, you know what we said about that dirty talk out in public!"
