Why this must be read: This is an interesting look at what might have been before the movie began. The lives the brothers led is shrouded in mystery, and this is one possible explanation for how they became the men they became – not the Saints, but the brothers, the friends, the linguists, the scholars, the men themselves.
One side of the hallway that they're currently walking down is glass, and it shows the internal courtyard where there're trees and a little bit of a lawn where it seems the seniors are allowed to eat their lunch when the weather is nice. Right now, though, since classes are still on and it's a bit chilly outside, there's nothing but wind and leaves out there. The wind lifting and tossing the leaves around, and some of the cold is leaking through the glass. Connor puts one finger against the glass as they go down the hall, not paying too much attention to what the girl is saying -- she's wearing a ludicrously short plaid skirt with pink legwarmers that are pulled up over the knee. She's walking in front of them talking about not much in particular, with Connor following and Murphy trailing far behind.
Connor doesn't really pay attention to anything the girl says because he keeps looking over his shoulder to make sure that Murphy doesn't slip off. Murphy's following quite a couple yards back with his hands dug down into his pockets and the collar of his jacket pulled up. Right now, as they're walking along the glass wall, Murphy's staring out at the green and not looking at the hallway or the girl at all. He's watching the wind and the leaves and the sunshine outside so raptly that Connor actually sees Murphy jerk his head back and take a sideways step when the glass abruptly turns into wooden paneling.
