Why this must be read:

This is one of the best post-Unfinished Business fics I've come across. Told in brief passages from three perspectives, the characterizations are so sharp they hurt. And perversely, I found myself liking all three characters more. The prose is spare but lyrical:

“Ok,” he said, and bounced the ball to her. She bounced it back, and they sat there on the floor together, tossing the ball back and forth in a game so inanely simple that she couldn’t understand the comfort she found in it until hours later, when the scripture passage, I touch what you have touched and through it I am blessed popped into her head, and she realized she was frakked.

Anastasia knew exactly when her husband started cheating, because Starbuck stopped being nice to her. Since the boxing match (Dee refused to think of it as any kind of dance), Captain Thrace had been all hesitant smiles and averted eyes and military correctness over the comms when she was flying CAPs. Then, a few days ago, she’d run bodily into her in the corridor, and Starbuck had smirked viciously and said, “Watch it, Lieutenant.” And Dee had just known. It was somehow perfectly Starbuck to only act guilty before she’d actually broken the rules. As if the thought was wrong, but the deed its own justification.
