Why this must be read:
Yes, it's yet another gem by Cord Smithee! Yes, I thought all of this author's stories had been rec'd, too! Alas, this story doesn't have the sizzling sex that sears your senses, but it's no less intense. To say much more would be criminal for such a short fic, but Cord Smithee's finely wrought use of language never lets your attention go for a second. Just when you think you've figured it all out, Cord turns what you thought you knew inside out in the best of ways.
"Infatuation!" Martinez snorts. "Another 'nice' word that's just an excuse for using a lover. For taking what you want and not offering more than a brief affair. A relationship based on lust." He pauses, looks at the cigarette in his hands, the one he has used to burn Napoleon's forearms. "And lust doesn't last, can't last, especially between two people of such different temperament and backgrounds. Infatuation is not love, and it always burns out."
