Crossing Lines by Morgan (rating R)

Fandom: TOUR OF DUTY
Pairing: Lieutenant Myron Goldman/Sergeant Zeke Anderson
Length: 7827 words
Author on LJ: None

Why this must be read:

Sergeant Zeke Anderson returns from the States for a fouth tour, telling everyone that it's unfinished business. What isn't said but is clear to everyone is that Lieutenant Myron Goldman is that unfinished business and Zeke feels horrible for leaving Myron behind at the worst possible time, immediately following the death of the lieutenant's lover, Alex Devlin. It's even clear to Myron why Zeke has come back.

Morgan takes Zeke's POV through this beautifully, as Zeke struggles to reach Myron in the wake of Alex's death. As if that isn't enough on Myron's plate, his friend Bellar's platoon has just massacred an entire village of mostly women and children. It's more than Myron can handle and Zeke finds him standing alone in the rain, falling apart.

Excerpt:

He takes a long drag, leans over and pulls the ashtray from the other side of the desk, taps off the ash, and says what's on his mind.

"Why are you back, Zeke? Really."

"I told you."

"Unfinished business. Yeah. That's what you told me. Why am I not buying that?" I shrug, and he takes another drag, appraising my innocent routine over his cigarette, and says it straight out. "You didn't have to come back for me, Zeke. I don't need looking after."

There it is. My chance to tell him what I've been hiding. He knows me so well, he knows I came back for him, it's just the "why" he can't see – because I won't let him. Instead I bring up the one topic guaranteed to piss him off."I thought you might need someone after what happened with Ms. Devlin."
