BSG/STAR WARS (PG)
Title: For Our Own Benefit
Characters: Yoda, Bill, Laura, Apollo, Racetrack, Athena
Length: One Shot
Author on LJ:
smercy
Author Website:
arenotvalid (author's writing lj)
Why this must be read:
Yoda meets the Colonials...It sounds ridiculous, but it's actually not, I swear. I initially went into this fic just looking to be amused, and at first I was (Dorky!Lee and Sarcastic!Racetrack) but then
smercy takes the fic to a more serious level, examining how Yoda and the Force would react to the Colonials and vice versa. I especially liked how
smercy dealth with Earth and how Kara was seen as particularly sensitive to the Force. I also found interesting the treatment of the Cylons in relation to the Force, and wish that element (especially regarding Athena) had been taken further.
Excerpt:
The boy was spooked, quiet. Yoda sighed and walked forward. "My home, this is. Alone here, I should be." The boy had obviously not made connections with any non-human life forms of his stature. The Order had thought that perhaps there had not been any tribes of humans left, but the Order was wrong about a great many things.
"It's talking to me," the boy squeaked, "Racetrack, the alien is talking to me in Basic and I can understand it."
"Quit your joking, Apollo," the girl scoffed. She walked from the spacecraft to him, rolling her eyes. Her face was younger than her voice.
Yoda could feel the tension in their bodies, the confusion. "Explain yourselves, you will," he said, abandoning all pretenses of ignorance. "Invading my home, you are. Welcome, you are not."
"Oh frak," the girl said, voice raised to a hysterical giggle. "We need to call the Admiral."
