A Waiting Pause by Jane Davitt (R)

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: pre-slash (Jim/Blair)
Length: 350 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] janedavitt
Author Website: Jane's Stories
Why this must be read:

[livejournal.com profile] sentinel_thurs is a weekly fic challenge community on LJ - every Thursday a prompt is issued and folks have one week to write and post brief stories inspired by that prompt (well, not really - the mods, [livejournal.com profile] castalie and [livejournal.com profile] turps33, are more than accommodating to late or lengthy posters). It's a great way to dip your toe in the pool of TS fandom on LJ, both for readers and writers.

Recently, [livejournal.com profile] sentinel_thurs celebrated its fifth anniversary, which is an incredibly impressive achievement. Five years of weekly prompts; five years of responses of all shapes and forms - slash and gen, angst and humor, drabbles and ficlets and chapters of works in progress. As you might imagine, the prompt that week was "celebrate five".

This is a story that Jane Davitt wrote for that challenge; an angsty little snippet that explores what was going through Jim's head at the end of Dead Drop. It's an intense moment, and a testament to the strength of the fandom that people are still writing missing scenes and episode tags nearly ten years after the show was last aired. This piece is beautifully written, as is all of Jane's stuff, and the final line will hit you like a punch to the gut.
