And this double vignette which details the third birthday first of Obi-Wan and then of Anakin tells of the circumstances that molded the men into which they grew. Dispassionate, kind Jedi raised Obi-Wan and a brutalized, yet always-dignified mother raised Anakin. I liked this story a lot for the glimpse of the surroundings of their two childhoods, the easy access to care that Obi-Wan enjoyed and the pinched upbringing of Anakin. beatrice_otter gets into the logic of youngling's thoughts, which is a rare gift.
