A Dead End by dilly r (R)

Why this must be read:

For my last Dax-centric recommendation, I've selected a story that tackles head-on the potential train wreck consequences of the canon relationship between Julian Bashir and Ezri Dax at the end of season seven.

However, A Dead End shuns the obvious pitfalls for these two characters. Instead, dilly r has created a moving piece that masterfully exploits Bashir's emotional strengths and weaknesses. Moreover, she pinpoints a risk faced by any new host interacting with the symbiont's old friends that every fan should have seen coming. And not just at the beginning of season seven, but way back in season one when Sisko first called Jadzia "Old Man".

Oh, and don't let the briefness of this story fool you. Dilly r doesn't need a lot of words to pack one heck of a punch.
