Drama by Viridian5 (R)
Fandom: DEEP SPACE NINE
Pairing: Garak/Bashir
Length: 18k
Author on LJ:
viridian5
Author Website: The Green Room version 3.0
Why this must be read:
In Drama, Viridian5 uses the discovery of Julian's big secret in season five as a gateway into this character's complex inner self. Through Julian's eyes, we learn the cost of growing up with a dual identity, and what changed and did not change for him once all was revealed. What's more, the author brilliantly exploits this canon revelation to create convincing motivations for Bashir's friendship with Garak, and why he'd take it to the next level. What's more, Viridian5 makes accomplishing all of the above look easy.
Have a taste:
I met such interesting people here too. I supposed it was inevitable that I’d be drawn to Garak. I wanted to see another actor at work and hear his stated philosophies. He occupied a unique position on the station. How odd to live a lie, have people be certain you lived a lie, yet still be hidden because no one knew what the truth could be. He challenged me in ways few people did.
I never once felt the urge to tell him. Not even once, no matter that he might understand.
While Drama is a sequel to the author's Dodge, it stands very much on its own.
