Why this must be read:

It's a charming piece that features the boys when the band is just starting out - the two youngest are still in high school, only touring during the summer. Patrick begins receiving anonymous notes, just little blue post-its with scribbled drawings or short messages. They're left everywhere: inside his guitar case, outside his house, on his car, and once, in his car. He doesn't try very hard to uncover the author's identity, instead rehashing the details with his band mates, Joe in particular.

What saves this story from becoming saccharine is the relatively quick pace and icedmaple's use of the "Note Wars". Time moves quickly through the end of the school year, rips through the summer when the notes dry up as the band tours, and slows down again when the band (save Andy) move into an apartment. This section makes delightful use of four actual notes written and presumably posted somewhere in the shared apartment, tying together genuine pieces of Fall Out Boy's past with a well-intentioned, if bumbling and at times frustrating, interplay between Joe and Patrick (the romantic sentiments being presumably fictional). It makes for an enjoyable and surprisingly speedy read.
