Why this must be read:
This is an AU where the two Rays know each other as teenagers. I'd never considered that AU possibility before, but it felt so right, and brynnmck writes it so vividly that I can just see it all in my mind. They are both such gawky, lovable boys here. But it's not a fluffy story--it's also about Ray Vecchio's relationship with his abusive father, and Ray's struggle over how to handle that and still be loyal to his family. And Kowalski--he has his own problems, but his fierce, awkward protectiveness of Vecchio is so touching.
