Why this must be read: It's always been my feeling that the relationship between Zoe and Wash is one of the most dynamic and interesting canon marriages in any fandom ever. Their connection was vital and warm and passionate, and never oversimplified or saccharine. This story does a wonderful job of rendering their relationship in all its glory, with the added bonus of dealing deftly with the terrible impact of losing Wash. This is a gorgeously poignant, powerful statement about the nature of love and loss, and how it's possible to stay even slightly sane and whole in the face of the most absolute heartbreak. Plus, the characterizations are exquisite, the emotions feel real and raw, and the imagery is simply lovely.
