Why this must be read: Xanthe's summary reads as follows: A small boy struggles to make sense of his destiny and his unusual abilities in a world full of danger. She also says that "this is my personal homage to The X Files now that the show is over. I think it's also the last time I'll ever try and make sense of canon! I wanted to draw in lots of elements that I loved from the show and give it a fitting farewell." And in my opinion, this is a wonderful way to say goodbye.

The child in question is William, and the story is all about him, his purpose, and how the other characters revolve around him. When you really analyze this, the story is more a post-colonization genfic. But what makes it very interesting is the nuances added by the relationships in the story -- mainly, the almost wonderful loving partnership between John and Monica, and the volatile UST-ridden one between Fox and Walter.

It's a long fic that incorporates many things from the 9 seasons of the X-Files -- from Alex Krycek to the Lone Gun Men to Gibson Praise to supersoldiers-- practically everything memorable about the series, even a little gen MSR! But it's not as trivial or indulgent that I may unintentionally make it out to be. It's wonderfully written, making use of canon and mythology to make this almost-bleak future breathe and come alive.

I'm sure most of you already love most, if not all, of the characters in X-files, and this will surely enrich that fondness. And this will also introduce you to a chracter that you will definitely come to love.
