Why this must be read: One thing I love about Firefly is the richly textured background. There's all sorts of interesting people and societies which we get to see in tantalizing snippets in canon. Miirica does a lovely job in this story of creating a world and characters that fit right in with that tradition. She adds to that sharp, witty dialogue and great crew interactions, not to mention a strong streak of fun. And, perhaps most impressive of all, she presents Mal/Kaylee in a way that makes me buy it, which I normally wouldn't.
