Self-Empowerment for the Modern Ghost by Spark77 (R)

Hello, I'm [livejournal.com profile] amaresu and I'll be rec'ing Being Human for you this month. Please feel free to check out the fandom overview if you haven't already. On to the first rec!

Fandom: BEING HUMAN
Pairing: Mainly just Annie with a side of George/Mitchell. Possibly George/Mitchell/Annie if you squint.
Length: ~3000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sparky77

Why this must be read: Annie is sometimes overlooked by the fandom. Most people love her, but with George/Mitchell sitting there she can get pushed to the side. This is nice a fun look at Annie learning to live with George and Mitchell. And more importantly it's about Annie learning to live as herself, even if she's already dead.

Annie doesn’t like talking about how she’s different. In fact, she tries to think about it as little as possible. Contemplating your own death is just too morbid. She’s not ready yet, and she’s not sure she’ll ever be.

Mitchell likes to ask her questions. When she’s feeling charitable about it, she thinks that he’s trying to help her, to guide her to whatever she’s supposed to be doing. Mostly, she thinks that she’s an interesting puzzle for him; something new and different to figure out and then discard when he’s done.

It’s not that she doesn’t want to answer his questions. Okay, she doesn’t, but that’s not the point. It’s that she couldn’t answer if she wanted to. She doesn’t have the words. No one has yet created a vocabulary for the dead to talk about their experiences to the undead.
