Why this must be read:

I have a not-so-secret confession to make. When it comes to Primeval, Connor is my OTC. And I particularly like stories where Connor is seen through the eyes of others, especially those around him who care for him.

And there's no doubting the way that Ryan feels about Connor in this story. The premise is that Connor is hurt, in hospital, with Ryan keeping a worried vigil, but fififolle fleshes out Ryan's fear and grief so well, with some wonderful use of language and imagery, that it really packs an emotional punch. You can't help but be drawn into the story, feeling the same things that Ryan does and angsting alongside him.

There's this place. Like a short corridor with nothing in it, no rooms off it, no windows, just a stretch of hall about ten metres long, with heavy swing doors enclosing it at both ends. It doesn't seem to be for anything, but Ryan found it in the basement one day when he had to get away. He needed to walk, and he found himself there. Far under the hospital there's this isolated quiet warm space where he can let the tears out.

He makes no sound, but they fall all the same.

Then he rubs his face and goes back to the sixth floor, where the air is crisper and fresher and the doors are more shiny and the noise is incessant.
