Why this vid kicks ass:
Because this is one of those glorious cases where the vidder has seen a correspondence between lyrics, tone, and the specifics of the source material that rises to a pure and giddy genius.
You might suspect that there's a certain cracked-out quality to this one,and you'd be right to suspect that. At the same time, though, everyone remains bizarrely in-character. And trust me, you don't want to miss the lip-syncing.

It's interesting to me that you don't need to know the source to see the glory that is this vid. It was on my rec list for the month, but I'd lost the link and had to go searching for it on youtube, and when I did, I found that there were several vidders who'd used this song for anime fandoms. I watched a few out of curiosity, and came away with a strong feeling that this one really is that good, in an artistic sense -- I'm flailing here, possibly because I'm not a vidder and don't have the technical language for it, but it just worked, was more than the sum of its parts, in a way the others weren't.
But of course, I also had to allow for the possibility that it was just that I happened to know this fandom, and didn't know the others. It makes me very happy indeed to know that it's not so.

I'd never even heard of Avenue Q before I stumbled into this. Now that I do -- well, I was not entirely surprised to find that there are many vidders who've tried using it for their fandoms. But the other versions I've seen don't work the way this one does. I know nothing at all about vidding, but still, the more I see, the more deeply I admire this one, and the crazed and original mind that produced it.
