Light Side of the Moon, by Maayan, R

Why this must be read: Well, all of Maayan's fics should be read. *g* I think that this fic is lesser known than some of Maayan's others. I like this story for the lyricism of its writing, for the sense of place, and the sense of an uncomprehending loss in the finding. For the train of thoughts that unfurl upon my monitor, for the unexpected words. It's like this story has little haiku moments contained within the larger fic. And, oh yeah...it also has a killer ending. *g*

Excerpt: The human sways at the terminator of the moon, on the top of a sagging promontory cutting into the oil-sea. His arms are wrapped around his waist.

If Scorpius were standing closer, he might have offered his own arms to hold in the blue surf that was unleashed too soon. But the human's skin is raw, and does not withstand touch. His words are too dry, and his eyes – they could be Scorpius' eyes, swirling, his mother's eyes – are wet.

The human's eyes don't shutter down like those of scientists and commanding officers, jealously keeping knowledge to themselves. They spill secrets and blood and tears.
