Why this must be read:   Now you know I can’t give the Van back without recommending a series! And this is a great one. Full of relationship development and mystical twists and turns, yet never forgetting that there’s police work to be done. Cases are investigated and solved.  And each story is written in my favorite style: POV. Blair’s, Jim’s and even Simon’s.

The Three Treasures trilogy covers the aftermath of Sentinel Too. Here we see the beginnings of Blair’s journey to understand his death experience. The rest of the stories follow Blair after he has become a detective, from his first big bust (that he almost doesn’t survive) through his growing confidence as an interrogator. At the same time he’s honing his skills on the shaman front.

Unfortunately neither Incacha nor anyone else is around to help.  Blair researches and experiments on his own. Between the inevitable grittiness of police work and the gravitas involved in studying shamanism, Jim despairs that he’s losing his best friend. At the same time love is developing, but a lost Burton manuscript might put an end to their new relationship; or twist it in a whole new direction. Engrossing, well written, classic.
