Heat by Blinkytreefrog and Greenygal (PG-13)
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Piper, Trickster
Length: Fairly Long (Seven parts)
Author on LJ:

Author Website: N/A
Why this must be read:
This fic is my watermark for hurt/comfort. It's a pretty simple premise: Piper and Trickster are on the run together--they manage to get out of the handcuffs but Trickster gets non-fatally shot (this was written as Countdown unfolded, so canon proved the authors sadly wrong). The rest of the story details their attempts to find medical attention and deal with Trickster's injury, fever, and growing delerium.
It's hardcore hurt/comfort (the "Heat" of the title refers to Trickster's fever and nothing sexual--it remains a buddy story although with a lot of slashy undertones), with lots of detailed suffering and a great deal of the kind of breaking down of emotional barriers h/c is so often used for, wonderfully and intensely written. I found myself totally immersed in it, on the edge of my seat both for Trickster to recover and for the two men to find some level of friendship together. It delivers wonderfully.
Trickster didn't elaborate further, just shuddered and mumbled, "Hurts...." His voice faded into silence.
"I know," Piper breathed. "I know." He started to reach out, but pulled back. "It'll be okay," he said instead, thinly. It was all he had to offer.
There were a few seconds of silence, and then Trickster's expression cleared into half-coherent frustration. "Don't know why...what...not making sense. Nothing comes out...out right."
Piper's laugh was involuntary, and a little painful. "That's why we're Rogues, pal. That's why we're Rogues."
