Half of Life by Ana (R)
Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: Zoe/Kaylee
Length: c 1500 words
Author on LJ:
ana_grrl
Author Website: Ana Fic
Why this must be read:
Because it is guilt-free early days pre-series no-strings-attached (hot) smutfic. And because it is really very good. This is a first time story which pays close attention to the half-steps and negotiation it would take to get two such very different people in bed together, even when they both want to be there, and still reads fluently and beautifully in character. Fabulous, fabulous Kaylee-voice.
"Think I can do that," Zoe says, unbuckling her gun belt.
And ain't that a sight? Kaylee ain't never been with someone who wears guns like that. Mostly the folk she met down the docks or around home were mechanic types, or shopkeepers. She'd seen the mercs and all that, but they hadn't ever seemed to see her. Not that she'd have wanted most of them.
So watching Zoe set down her weapons is a new thing. She handles 'em real careful-like, putting them down like maybe they're precious, the most valuable thing Zoe owns. Kaylee don't much like guns, but somehow, seeing Zoe like that with them, it gets something stirred up inside her, making her want this even more than before.
Her mouth feels dry, her hands sweaty, and suddenly, she's real nervous. Real nervous about doing this, being disappointing, about being handled in the same way Zoe handles her guns, and being found wanting.
