Why this must be read:
Although I do read and enjoy long, plot-filled stories, it's the short, character-driven vignettes that I love more than anything. This piece is one of those and it's excellent. Done from Davis's POV, and slightly AU given where this season has gone, it's a great piece exploring his side of things, especially in regards to his feelings and his relationship with Chloe. It's sparse and lyrical and altogether lovely. Nothing is overwritten and there is some wonderful use of language here. Chloe/Davis isn't the easiest pairing to write, but
viennawaits does it justice here.
A lot had gone through his head when he’d first seen Chloe. Cute and steady, even though the block looked like a disaster area—was a disaster area—and he’d wanted to ask her out, prolong contact; all the good stuff.
Then Clark had appeared like a fashion spread for GQ-fucking regular guys over and Davis had held it in, but not given up. There was something and nothing going on between Chloe and Clark.
