The Common Fate of All Things Rare by Cheapredhead (R)
Fandom: X-FILES
Pairing: M/S
Length: 10000+ words
Author on LJ: Cheapredheads' Journal
Author Website: Cheapredhead a.k.a.
Aloysia Virgata & Scarlet Baldy
Why this must be read:
This is a relatively new story, written by two relative newcomers (as defined by the 'Before the Show Ended' and the 'After the Show Ended' markers). Both are fantastic authors in their own right (and Aloysia Virgata has been recommended here), but together it is a sight to behold!
I'm going to let the authors introduce their own work here: "Ever wonder what happened between the silence of Never Again and the flowers from Memento Mori? Ever wonder if Scully's night with Ed Jerse affected her relationship with Mulder in any way? Ever wonder what pushed Scully to go to the hospital and find out about her cancer in the first place? Ever wonder how her illness might have affected her work or if she ever thought about Leonard Betts' words?
Well, we did.."
This story represents what can be done with an original 'X-File' fanfic, i.e. a story that creates and solves an 'X-File' in the grand tradition of the TV show. There are excellent original characters here, dry humor, the filling of a minor plot-hole, a brief appearance by Frohike, and of course a bit of angst between the partners. Oh, and the X-File itself is defintely a thrilling one.

Just found this. Thank you very much for the great rec. We had tremendous fun writing it.
It made me smile though, that you would consider me a relative newcomer as I was already writing stories back in 1998 (and am a little bit known outside LJ for stories like Human Credentials and Doctor, Copper, Sailor, Corpse).
For those interested, Aloysia and I also have an archive hosting all of our stories:

Scarlet Baldy.

I am definitely a relative newcomer to the fandom, and I really respect authors and fandom members like you, especially those who are still active all these years later. Really. I do! I hate doing things like this because I look like a complete moron!
I've read those other stories! Human Credentials is one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITES. Doctor, Copper, Sailor, Corpse was recommended here years ago (check the memories).
I had so much fun reading this story while it was being posted (I know I told you I loved his t-shirts!). I would LOVE to read more from you two. And the links for the author website link to that page that you provided, both individually and collectively.

And I just friended you, so you can't be a moron, I don't friend morons. *grins*
Am delighted to hear you love HC! Thanks for letting me know
