Why this must be read:

When a writer appears seemingly out of nowhere and gifts fandom with jaw-droppingly brilliant work, then mysteriously disappears without a warning, I have to wonder if there will be anything quite like it again. giantsofold has posted only a few fics, but they have the admirable qualities of being able to sidestep convention and upturn expectations, particularly with such a beloved character as Superman. Rites is a prime example, setting Kal-El as the great champion of the planet Sakaar, from Marvel Comic's Planet Hulk series. It's to the strength of the lyrical and haunting piece that no knowledge of Sakaar or its inhabitants is needed, and that the only thing required to enjoy this wonderous tale is the desire to read and be moved.
