Indiscretions in the Life of an Heiress by Alison (R)
Fandom: JANE AUSTEN (PRIDE AND PREJUDICE)
Pairing: Georgiana Darcy/George Wickham
Length: 26400 words
Author on LJ: unkown
Author Website: Alison's page at Firthness.
Why this must be read:
First, let me apologize for recommending a fic that is posted in a closed archive. I know registering to read is a hassle if you're not in the fandom, but I cannot really help it.
Not only Alison is one of the best authors in the fandom, and one of the most period accurate (with amazingly detailed footnotes) but this is one of the best stories. This fic--if
tree will forgive me for adopting her terminology--is the best kind of interstitial fic there is. Not only takes a deep, interesting look at a part of a known and loved book that we barely pay attention to, but it does so with a care and canon love that I guarantee you will want to adopt it into your personal canon.
For Elizabeth fans, I regret to say she does not make an appearance, but if you want another canon-like look a Wickham, Darcy, Georgiana and even Bingley, this is the fic for you. It is also told by letters, in an style reminiscent of Austen times.
Letter 1: Fitzwilliam Darcy to George Wickham.
Sir,
Were I convinced that my revered father’s intentions for the parish of Kympton would be promoted by your promotion to that place, perhaps I would reconsider. A decision was made by you, voluntarily, three years ago. Need I remind you that you declined all interest in the church, resigned all claims upon any patronage at my disposal and were compensated accordingly? Duty, honour, humanity and affection have no claims upon me in the present instance. I am sorry that you find the law, a profession to which your father always gave honour, an unprofitable study; however, there is nothing more that I can or will do for you. You are your own man.
Brook Street, 12th December 1810.

Registration, on the other hand, is open and free.
(Sadly most Jane Austen ff sites require registration.)
If you absolutely don't want to register anywhere, I will be reccing another story in a day or so, and I don't plan to recommend any other author that posts only in closed archives. I recced Alison because she's an outstanding author that hasn't been recced before, and ought.

* In which case, idk? It says they will open at some point. I can comment with an alternative, rec, I guess, as it's not like I lack those. :P
