People Like You by Merry (PG-13)

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: 2,200~
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] merryish
Author Website: any road
Why this must be read: Because of the banter, man, the banter. She’s brilliant at it, and can have you laughing aloud one minute or snuffling into your sleeve the next. Here it’s all smiles as Jim tells Blair something that has the popcorn freeze on the way to his mouth..

Also known as Antimony Hayes, few get these guys’ narrative voices as spot on as she does. This is short, sweet, fun, and a perfect pick-me-up..

"What would you call joining the military if not fighting for a cause I believe in?"

"Selling out to the nationalistic propaganda machine that chews up America's youth and spits out perfect little soldiers, and--"

"Oh, for god's sake--"

"--blatantly surrendering your right to self-determination--"

"Okay, okay, fine. I'll have you know that I'm a member of a very active, very liberal group right within the police department."

"Yeah? Somebody start a movement to bring back the Betamax?"

Merry was one of the very first authors I read in TS. She's still one of the few whose stories I can read over and still love and she's ambi-fictional! You're right -- there are so many great lines. The one the reccer said had her laughing was the Dr. Demento one. Since I'm of an age where I *know* who Dr. Demento is, it tickles me as well.

You've been doing a great job this month. Nice variety and great quality.

Merry, or Antimony Hayes as I was introduced to her,

Ah, those name changes! I first read "Truth, Death and Donuts" under Antimony Hayes, but "People Like You" as Meredith Lynn -- both at 852 prospect. It wasn't until I found her actual site that I realized they were the same wonderful Merry.
