Cages by Morgan [PG-13]

Fandom: TOUR OF DUTY
Pairing: Myron Goldman/Zeke Anderson
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author website: Notes From the Underground

Why this must be read:

In the episode "The Luck" Myron and Zeke are held as Prisoners of War (POWs). It is one of the most powerful eps in the series. This story explores their experience, hi-lighting the true horror of the situation and how truly desperate situations can reveal our true feelings. How they get through it together and come out with a new understanding is worth the read. Good exploration of Myron's self-hate and the emotional effects of homophobia. Bonus points for the line, "No cage could hold his imagination."

When they brought Zeke back they marched him to the cage and if Myron was at first disappointed that he hadn’t made it to safety it was quickly replaced by relief that at least he was still alive, that they hadn’t killed him on the spot and dragged back a corpse.

“See,” the major presented him to Myron like a trophy, “See what happens when you run away.”

For them Zeke displayed no emotion, the model of stoicism in the face of the enemy. For Myron he conveyed a silent apology from behind shuttered eyes.

Sorry.

It’s all right.

Myron tried to comfort him. As long as they were alive and together they’d have another chance.
