A Trio Of Deathfics, by prudence_dearly (G)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Benton Fraser, Ray Vecchio, others
Length: 330 words each
Author on LJ:
prudence_dearly
Author Website: 2008 writing, 2009 writing
Why this must be read:
prudence_dearly is an extremely talented writer, one who has a fairly wide range, spanning angst to humor to just plain weird (Nightmare Before Christmas/due South crossover, anyone?). The same holds true for her characters; she's written a little of everything.
These three snippets, linked only by character and theme, are a painful exploration of death and dying. In spite of their shortness, these stories are packed with emotion and insight into the way we try to deal with the death of someone we love.
prudence_dearly delicately explores a difficult subject than many of us have too much experience with.
"Do you think you could ever die some way that it didn't hurt?"
The sky was light blue, dusted over with faint clouds. The sun was turning them bright, so it hurt to look up. He thought about closing his eyes, to shut out the glare, but he knew that was a bad idea right now.
"No, Ray," whispered Fraser. "I think it always hurts. I don't – I don't know." His voice was faltering. "I don't think it hurts afterward."
