Why this must be read:
The second of my favorite alt-S7 ends. This is a longer piece than the last, following Buffy away from the wreckage of Hellmouth, and following Xander and Willow as they wait for Buffy.
The dialogue's strong, the descriptions sparse, but effective. Buffy is sometimes harsher than some might prefer, and the author clearly has her strong opinions about the Buffy/Spike relationship, but aside from these notes - which aren't flaws, but elements that stick out - where the piece succeedes best is the overall feeling. There is weariness, dogged stubbornness, slowly growing dread, and frustration, but great, overwhelming joy as well. You won't be able to help smiling.
