Why this must be read: Because Monica and Micah might have slipped offscreen in Volume 3, but they'd've kept up the good fight - and to see just how, there is fic. A Level 5 escapee comes to town, followed by newest company girl, Claire, and Elle bridling under orders from Pinehearst.

The bad guy has neatly villianous power and good, creative use is made of everyone's abilities to take him down. The plot moves along at a fair pace integrating all the characters - histories together or not - the shifts in the balance of the relationships paced throughout the story. The voices all four are all there, together with a sharp picture of the surroundings.

Monica and her Matrix moves are just cool, Micah's smart and sensible, Claire's still basing strategies on her serious injuries and Elle confident and in control - of her power at least.

Less so when there's danger. Or making out. But that just adds to the fun, right?

Micah tried to blot out the crackling dead-space of Elle at his back and focus on the task in front of him. Electronics didn't have feelings. They weren't animate. No matter what his relationship was with them, he knew that. But that didn't stop him from feeling like every piece of technology in the Batcave was carefully edging away from Elle out of self-preservation.

Finally, he turned, raising his hands awkwardly to try to shoo her back.

“Can you just move?” he griped, eyes flicking over to Monica for back up. Bringing the crazy electrokinetic sociopath on board may have been his idea, but that didn't mean he trusted her to stay civil. “You're upsetting my computer.”
