One Long Dark Seacouver Night by elistair

Hello, friends! I'm [livejournal.com profile] birggitt and I'll be driving the Highlander Van this month. So, without further ado, let's have a nice ride together:
Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairing: None, gen. Methos and Duncan McLeod friendship
Length: One shot, around 7.800 words
Author on LJ: None, elistair at IJ
Author Website: Taterville
Why this must be read: Because this is a delightful piece, where Methos and Duncan are enjoying some time together. No pressing danger, no old-time enemy, no immy hunting any of theirs heads. Just the two of them, together, having a rare, peaceful good time, visiting friends, drinking coffee, walking and chatting.
elistaire write this boys in such a perfect, accurate way. You will recognize them, even if their names weren't in the story at all. So, yes, you really should go and read. Because is wonderful.
Excerpt, for your reading pleasure:
Duncan was glad to hit the sidewalks again. He no longer felt tired, but invigorated, and the prospect of walking the rest of the way back to his car didn’t seem too onerous. Next to him, Methos seemed equally wide-awake again, and they set a brisk pace.
“That car is a lost cause,” Methos commented as soon as they were out of over-hearing range by Abner.
“It is,” Duncan agreed. “He’ll need to get a new one.” Despite his chagrin at leaving money on Abner’s lap, he decided to check on Abner and Rosie later on in the week. He could find where the car was towed and possibly bring a little anonymous help to the family. Rosie probably wasn’t making much slinging hot dogs all night and retired cab drivers usually didn’t have a lot of leeway in their budgets.
Methos must have seen the gleam in his eye. “I'm mostly sure he was calling Llewelyn's Repairs and Towing," he said.
"Huh," said Duncan. He wasn't sure what piqued him more. That Methos had paid enough attention to know where Abner had called and Duncan himself had not, or that Methos knew him well enough to assume he would lend a helping hand. Was he so predictable?
Duncan stewed on that for a couple blocks, and next to him, he was sure Methos gloated. It was hard to tell because the wind had picked up bitterly and both of them were hunched into their coats, but Duncan was certain he detected a gloating-esque sort of hunching coming from Methos.

This sounds like a good read! Unfortunately, the cut tag for the full story isn't working :(

Elistaire does have a website: http://www.taterville.com/

Her stories are under 'Tray' on the index page, which you get to after clicking through the entry page.

She doesn't have this one up yet, but she updates on a reasonably frequent basis.

Please don't rec stories that are friends locked or otherwise not publicly available. It's frustrating for readers and you have to assume that if the author wanted the story to be made public, it would be posted in a public space.

This was the best HL fic I've read in awhile. Just the guys doin' their thing, very enjoyable and believable.
