One Bright Summer by Starwatcher (G)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: none, gen
Length: ~33,000 words
Author on LJ:
starwatcher307
Author Website: Starwatcher's Fic Journal
Why this must be read:
Kid!fic is another trope that can be overdone and heavy-handed, but that is definitely NOT the case in this story. Sixteen-year-old Jimmy Ellison is training for a steeplechase when he runs into a seven-year-old Blair Sandburg, who is hanging around the stables hoping to learn how to ride. The two strike up an unlikely friendship; adventures ensue, and, of course, Jimmy ends up being heroic and rescuing Blair. Both young Jim and young Blair are written very believeably, and the senses make an early appearance. The real magic of this story, though, I think, is that Starwatcher brings it forward and integrates it seamlessly through the first five episodes of Season One. She creates a very believeable "how they met earlier" backstory that lovingly celebrates the deep and abiding friendship between Jim and Blair.

I never said - I wasn't sure of the protocol - but thank you so much for your kind words. I was (and still am) thrilled to see one of my stories recced.
This is a heads-up: I'll soon be closing my LiveJournal fic-site. However, I'm moving all my stories before I do. This story is now in one single post at:
