Jessica Jones, the character created by Brian Bendis as the protagonist of his Alias series, is one of the most complicated and fascinating women in Marvel Comics, and there definitely isn't enough fic about her. This story from last year's Yuletide explores Jessica's relationship with her boyfriend (and eventual husband) Luke Cage, through the course of one deceptively simple argument. On the surface, they're just arguing about what to call each other -- "woman" or "girl"; "partner" or "boyfriend" -- but there's so much more going on. It's beautiful and painful to read. Whether you know the characters well, or you're meeting them for the first time, this story is note-perfect.
