VID REC: The Sentinel – My Loverman

Got your popcorn and jujubes for the Friday Night show? Me too!

Vidder: Oneofaradia
Musical artist: Bruce Springsteen
Pairing: Blair/Jim
Vidder on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] oneofaradia
Vidder's website:  Gypsy Gateway to Music Videos

Why this vid kicks ass:
I’ve often said that the Moonridge auction brings out the best of authors and artists. This is a prime example. Two years ago, Oneofaradia was an accomplished vidder, but almost exclusively in Stargate SG-1.  She offered to make either an SG1 or TS vid, and I won her services.  I wanted a Bruce Springsteen song and I wanted our guys together. A tall order, since Bruce tends toward songs that are full of het relationships. My Loverman is a surprising exception.

In her capable mind and hands, Oneofaradia shows the song to best advantage by using SenToo clips. Perfect, because the song refers to partner betrayal, hurt, anger, forgiveness and resolution. This isn’t one of your typical happy go lucky vids, but it is quite worthy of a CV rec and a look-see. Enjoy.  (And don't forget feedback if you do!)

Note: although a link for My Loverman is listed at Oneofaradia’s Gateway site, it’s not working right now.

It is kind of worrying that as I read this, I was making a list of Springsteen songs in my mind which could be applicable to m/m relationships. Sometimes my geekiness weird even me out.

Good rec, though!

Off the top of my head:

Backstreets (it's never mentioned whether Terry is a girl or a boy)
Bobby Jean (as above, plus legend has it that the song was written about Little Steven)
No Surrender (as above - I like to think it's the b-side to Bobby Jean)
Devil's Arcade (it does say "the beat of her heart" at the end, but that could as easily be the mother as the girlfriend, and the rest of the song would work with two men in the army (NOT THAT I'M OBSESSED OR ANYTHING))
The Last Carnival (I think it's a beautiful song about friendship, but there's a physicality to it that could be interpreted as sexual.)
This Hard Land (Or as I like to call it "The Gay Cowboy Song"; I realize that the narrator calls Frank his brother, but still - hey lets move out west together, and kiss? Also, there's probably an essay in the ambiguities of the word "brother" in the work of Bruce Springsteen)

4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) (this one is often mentioned in the "ambiguous names" category along with Terry and Bobby Jean, but that's silly - Bruce sings "Sandy girl" on all the recordings I have. However, there is the line: The boys in their high heels, oh their skins are so white, which qualifies as homoerotic, if nothing else.)

There are probably others - this is just from memory. :)

Hee, I love the band in concert - they are such giant dorks and they seem to love playing together so much.
